Plan Your Strongest Start to 2026: A Simple Strategy for Salon Owners

Do you ever feel like January arrives before you’ve had the chance to breathe? You open the salon doors in the new year and suddenly you’re already behind. Your database feels quiet, your social pages look a little tired, and your marketing plan still lives in your head instead of on paper. It’s not that you lack ideas. You just haven’t had the time to map them out. Does that sound familiar? Many salon owners start each year hoping things will simply “fall into place.” But what if next year didn’t have to rely on hope at all? What if you walked into 2026 feeling prepared, calm, and clear about what needs to happen? THE REAL REASON PLANNING MATTERS I read something recently that made me think. It said most businesses don’t struggle because of poor effort. They struggle because they’re always reacting. Does that sound familiar?  How often do we step into a new year knowing we’ll be juggling bookings, clients, staff questions, and last-minute marketing, all at the same time? What ...

How to change your attitude - Changing your attitude can change your life

Attitude is everything Attitude is everything. Attitude is a way of thinking, feeling, and behaving that reflects your state of mind and character. I am sure you have met people where you thought they had a great attitude, and others where you thought they had a poor attitude. How did you make the observation if someone had a great attitude or not? Attitude is reflected in the way people behave, based on their internal thoughts, feelings and self talk. We are in complete control of what we think, how we feel and what we say to ourselves, which means we are in total control of our behaviour and the attitude we project.   Changing your attitude, means changing your behaviour, which means changing how we feel, what we think and what we say to ourselves. I believe what we say to ourselves is very powerful because it can make the biggest difference that will directly impact on our feelings, thoughts behaviour and our attitudes. We can change what we say to ourselves ...

Are You Unhappy and Wish for Things to Change?

Not happy in your current situation? Are you stuck in a rut, just plodding along, hoping for the economy to change or for someone to make things better for you? ... Are you laying blame on other things or people for your situation? Is it the landlords fault, is it your customers fault, is it the governments fault? There are certain things we can't control, it will either hail or shine tomorrow, there is nothing we can do to change that. What you CAN control and can change, is how you RESPOND to it, how you think about it, how you feel about it, and what ACTION you take as a result. For things to change, first you must change your internal dialogue, how you think about the situation you are having challenge with, and what you literally say to yourself about it. Language and the words you choose are extremely powerful. The pen is mightier than the sword! People can be moved deeply with words, can be influenced to take action, can be motivated or broken down. So be care...

How to Set and Achieve Goals

Weekends are great to take a breather and think about your goals. Reflect and think about your week, your year, your life so far, what you like about it, what you don't, what changes you can make and set some goals. If you want to get somewhere in your life, first you need to know where you want to go, before you think about how you will get there.  Get a nice journal and start writing your thoughts down. Even if you are not sure, start jotting down your ideas, your wish list, or your frustrations. A good tip I once received when I said "but I don't know WHAT I want" , I was told to write down what I DONT WANT. It was a great start, most of us know what we don't want. So write all the things you don't want on one side of the page, then next to each point on the other side of the page turn it into what you DO want. For example "I don't want to run out of breath and struggle like that when I climb that damn hill." will turn to "I want to b...
